Scott Velan is a piper and a musician rooted in the rich cultural heritage of Gaelic Scotland.

Representing a fourth generation of musicians in his family, he chose to follow a path of traditional and contemporary folk music of Ireland and Scotland in his late teens.

During his university years, he was a lead dancer and a choreographer at Démáirt and founded the first Brno Irish/Scottish trad music band in Brno — Kirsty’s Choice,

while also playing with other bands and participating in various projects as a guest player.

Over the years, he has played the Highland and Border pipes, bodhrán — Irish frame-drum, penny whistles and Irish flute in Brno, London, Isle of Skye and other parts of North West Scotland and Ireland. His numerous travels and stays in Gaelic communities across the West Coast of Scotland and Hebrides gave him a unique opportunity to immerse in the Gaelic-speaking world and embrace the local ways of music, singing and storytelling. His band The Adam Scott Revival Band, brought to Czech audiences the taste of contemporary Scottish folk music, blending in influences from Gaelic and Francophone parts of Nova Scotia and other “Celtic” countries. Recently, Scott has performed as a solo piper in Czechia, England and Scotland and also plays with Gruagach

Scott will lead three workshops. One will allow you to take a glimpse into the world of traditional and contemporary Scottish piping existing beyond the realm of military pipe bands.

His second workshop will offer a crash-course in Scottish Gaelic through the medium of Gaelic songs and in his bodhrán lessons, participants will try to tame unusual time signatures used in contemporary Irish and “Celtic” music, build a few patterns around them, as well as brush their your cipín/tipper technique.
